Official launch of the project combating teenage pregnancies and empowering adolescent girls and young mothers living in informal settlements

In the framework of the world-wide “16 Days of Activism Campaign” running between 25 November (Elimination of Violence against women day) and 10 December (Human Rights Day), CESTAS and HISA with the support of EU Delegation are pleased to invite you to an information event of the Project “Combating teenage pregnancies and empowering adolescent girls and young mothers living in informal settlements”. This initiative is co-funded by the European Union with approximately NAD 4,5 Million.

The project contributes to the protection of women and adolescent girl’s sexual and reproductive health rights, whilst specifically addressing the prevention of teenage pregnancy, child marriages and Gender based Violence. The project also empowers adolescent girls living in informal settlements of Tobias Hainyeko Constituency (Khomas Region) and Vyf Rand informal settlement Okahandja Constituency in the (Otjozondupa Region) to access personal development opportunities. In addition the project enables targeted beneficiaries by enabling access to life skills and pre-vocational skills trainings.

The Framework:

Even though Namibia’s constitution and law are in place for a conducive legal and policy environment for the protection of children and criminalization of sexual abuse and other Gender based violence, child rights violations, sexual abuse and child marriages continue unabated. Like many other countries, Namibia is still to develop adequate mechanisms and referral systems for women and child protection for hard to reach areas such as informal settlements. The project will equip and strengthen community networks, and run the “Each One Reach One Teach One” campaign for men and boys to be defenders and advocates of women and children rights.
